Nissan May Introduce Smaller, ‘Low-Priced’ Cars in the U.S.
Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Nissan Motor Co., Japan’s third-
largest carmaker, may introduce smaller, low-priced vehicles in
the U.S. to meet growing demand for compact models.
“We need to roll out small, fuel-efficient and low-priced
cars globally, and we are thinking about introducing that type
of car in the U.S.,” company spokesman Sadayuki Hamaguchi said
in a telephone interview today. Hamaguchi declined to comment on
what model the company may sell or when it would be announced.
Nissan will start selling low-priced vehicles in the U.S.
after 2010, the Nikkan Kogyo newspaper reported, without saying
where it obtained the information. The vehicle may be produced
in Mexico and priced “significantly” below $10,000, the report
said.
