2002 Nissan Quest Minivan Features Sophisticated Styling, Sedan-Like Comfort, Convenience and Performance

With a sophisticated appearance, highly versatile interior with luxurious features, comfortable ride and responsive car-like handling, the 2002 Nissan Quest is among the leaders in the import-brand minivan segment. With enhanced style, comfort and convenience, the 2002 Quest offers an exceptional combination of minivan utility, including seven-passenger seating and flexible cargo space, sedan-like comfort, performance and safety amenities.

Inside, Quest offers heated front seats (GLE, SE with leather package), standard 130-watt Super Sound system on SE and GLE, message center with outside temperature, miles per gallon and distance-to-empty displays (SE, GLE), available cloth power memory seat on SE and an available factory-installed Family Entertainment System with a headliner-mounted 6.4-inch LCD monitor, video cassette player and rear audio controls. For 2002, Quest offers revised 16-inch alloy wheel designs for GXE and SE, new exterior color and revised option packages.

'The standard amenities on the new 2002 Quest, the availability of the Family Entertainment System and convenient interior features have made the ideal family vehicle even better,' said Bill Kirrane, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. 'At the same time, Quest's responsive sedan-like ride and handling delivers complete driver satisfaction.'

Exterior and Interior Design

Building on Nissan's stylish and sophisticated heritage, the Quest features a 'tailored,' polished look inside and out. Quest was styled at Nissan Design America (NDA) in La Jolla, Calif., creators of the original Quest and 1999 major redesign, the new Sentra, Xterra, Maxima and Infiniti J30. For the 2001 model year, Quest received a new front fascia and other styling enhancements and the 2002 builds upon that style with revised wheel designs for GXE and SE models. Quest offers a new two-tone exterior color, Dark Shadow Gray/Quicksilver two-tone, and three new exterior/interior color combinations including Sunset Red with Mocha cloth (GXE), Nordic White with Mocha leather (GLE) and Smoked Silver/Natural Beige with Mocha cloth/leather (SE/GLE).

Quest's interior was designed to offer car-like amenities and generous usable space. One of the many innovations available in the Quest is the multi-adjustable, rear cargo area Quest Smart Shelf, which can quickly be adjusted to create separate compartments for strollers, grocery bags and other items. A built-in mesh net helps secure the items on the shelf. The Smart Shelf, a category first, was conceived at NDA's unique 'Design Context Lab,' where a research team observes owners interacting with their vehicles rather than just talking about them.

The 2002 Quest continues to feature the popular QUEST TRAC Flexible Seating System, which allows second-row seats to be easily removed and the third-row seats to be slid forward or back as needed on integrated rails. Up to 24 different configurations are available with the bench seat and 66 with the second-row captain's chairs. Optional on GXE is a second row bench seat with integrated child seats and machine-washable seat cushions. The Quest's contemporary design maximizes interior space through use of 'human touches,' including intuitive placement of cup holders and storage compartments, available dual position memory driver's seat and outside mirrors and HomeLink Universal Transceiver garage door opener system.

In total, there are up to 31 storage areas throughout the cabin, including room for coins, cups and CDs.

A Super Sound 7-speaker 130-watt AM/FM/cassette/CD dual media audio system with the Radio Data System (RDS), steering wheel audio controls and rear audio controls featuring 2 headphone jacks, volume control, speaker on/off, source select and program/track seek comes standard on SE and GLE. GXE Quests come standard with a 4-speaker 80-watt AM/FM/cassette dual media RDS audio system with an optional 6-speaker CD audio upgrade as part of the GXE Comfort Plus Package.

Available on Quest is the Family Entertainment System, which includes a ceiling-mounted 6.4-inch monitor, video cassette player with integrated display, rear audio controls and remote control. A floor-mounted system with 5.8-inch screen is available on Quests with sunroof.

Engine/Suspension

Standard on the front-wheel drive Quest is a 3.3-liter SOHC V6 engine producing 170 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. This engine features numerous advanced technologies that reduce friction, maintenance costs and weight while improving efficiency and performance, including microfinished crankshaft and camshaft, integrated ignition coils, composite intake manifold and stainless steel exhaust. Backing this powerful engine is a standard 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic overdrive transmission.

Quest features a subframe-mounted front independent MacPherson strut/coil spring suspension with stabilizer bar and a beam axle/leaf spring rear suspension with stabilizer bar. The rear leaf springs offer a one-piece design for reduced weight and friction. Braking is provided by power-assisted vented front disc/rear drum brakes with a 4-wheel/3-channel/4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard on all 2002 Quest models.

SE models feature a sport suspension with larger diameter front and rear stabilizer bars, a front strut tower brace and acceleration-sensitive strut design (technology first introduced on the 2000 Altima) emphasizing SE's handling and stability.

Safety and Security

Every Quest meets 2002 Federal Motor Vehicle Passenger Car Safety Standards (except privacy glass). Standard equipment includes front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, dual front supplemental air bags, three-point outboard seat belts in second and third rows, optional integrated second-row child seat (bench seat), energy absorbing steering column, front and rear crumple zones, hood buckling creases and safety stops, pipe-style steel side-door guard beams, knee bolsters and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchorage system.

An automatic on/off headlight system (standard GLE, optional SE Leather Package) can sense low light levels and automatically turn on the Quest's headlights. It can also provide up to 2.5 minutes of illumination after the headlights are turned off, which comes in handy in a variety of situations including dark garages and parking lots. Other security features include a standard Vehicle Security System on SE and GLE models.

Model Availability

For 2002, Quest is offered in three well-equipped models, the GXE, luxurious GLE and sporty SE. The innovative multi-adjustable Quest Smart Shelf is standard on Quest GLE and available as part of the SE Convenience Package.

Other available packages include a revised GXE Comfort Plus Package, which now includes an audio system upgrade, SE Leather Package, SE Heated Seats Package, SE/GLE Sunroof Package, Family Entertainment Package, GXE Bench Seat with integrated Child Seat and 2nd row Captain's Chairs for GXE.

Design and Manufacturing

The all-American Quest, in addition to being designed by NDA, was engineered in North America through the facilities of Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) in Farmington Hills, Mich., Torrance, Calif., and Phoenix, Ariz. Major body components are produced at Nissan North America Manufacturing Smyrna & Decherd Tennessee Plants, with final assembly provided by Ford Motor Company at Avon Lake, Ohio.
