Review:
I have had a 1990, 1995, 1998, 2001 and a 2004 Maxima. The 2004 is my
last Maxima ever. If I could drive it off a cliff -- I would, just to be rid
of it. Our 1995 has 131,000 miles and it is runs better and is it quieter
than our 2004. Never ever get the new model in its first year. Here are some
of our problems -- Rattling under the hood (replaced struts, then replaced
defective struts) and it still rattles. Tech tried to tell us that is the
way the car is supposed to sound. They replaced some broken brackets -- but
it still rattles. Our driver's side window makes horrible noise when it goes
down. They cleaned and lubricated it -- still makes noise. Heat/AC problems
include - very little air flow out of floor vents, extremely hot when it
comes out of top vents (can't touch vents because they are so hot), makes a
high-pitched noise on high speeds, doesn't defrost windshield because of the
angle of the windshield. After the tires were rotated (not Goodyear tires)
we started to get whining noises from the tires on a turn - had to rerotate
the tires. Now there is a grinding noise coming from right wheel (not all
the time) - don't know what that is about. (It doesn't happen all the time
so can't make it happen during a test drive) Center console cover has broken
and been replaced. Headlights seem to cause a problem for uncoming traffic -
they give me the brights all the time. I HATE THIS CAR.

I have been plagued by the wheels on this car. I'm not a hard driver,
but these wheels are ridiculous. They shake, they shimmy, they vibrate. If
yours haven't yet, they will. I don't think its too much to ask for my
$30,000 car to drive at 60 MPH without the wheel shaking back and forth in
my hands. I'd never buy a Nissan or a car with 18" wheels again.

Pros:
Interior noise level, blazing pick-up.
|
Cons:
The freaky and at time scary front end shimmy! It is a hazard!
|
Review:
The 2004 Maxima drive train lives up to its name once you
break through the shimmy barrier. The interior, seats, noise level, radio/CD
and general performance is excellent. But after 50,000 miles the shimmy
persists after four sets of tires (Continental and finally Michelin),
numerous alignments, one new wheel and a week sitting in the shop. The real
deal is the axles. They have had to develop a special method to take the
vibration out of the front involving a micrometer measurement of the axle at
the rotor. Then they balance the wheels to that variation with the axle
calculated in. Do not rotate your tires! Nissan should replace the axles.
The Goodyears do not have the sidewall rating necessary to handle the
flucuations

Pros:
Power, looks, design concept and comfort.
|
Cons:
fit and finish, paint, interior quality of workmanship and materials,
customer service support from consumer affairs, terrible dealer service
support, horrible fit and finish on the paint and exterior pieces, interior
fit and finish and materials, squeaks, rattles. The car shakes when driven
on the highway (balancing the wheels does not help) Consumer affairs is a
waste, totally lost company.
|
Review:
This is my 5th Nissan model car and it truly disappoints me when it
comes to quality and finish. The can needs a serious re-thinking when it
comes to manufacturing and quality. The interior squeaks, rattles, parts do
not fit with each other, the whole car shakes when driving on the highway,
it should be totally recalled and replaced. Consumer affairs is a waste of a
department.

I have had 6 tires put on my car at $265.00!Goodyear tries to make you
think their doing you a favor by giving you a discount. Nissan needs to
recall before someone gets killed! Nissan is blaming Goodyear, Goodyear is
blaming Nissan they are both at fault. Nissan rushed Goodyear to make these
tires for the maxima. I'm ready for a class action suit anybody want to join
me? I would like to trade my car but I would never forgive myself if someone
was killed in my car. We need to get these vehicles off the road whether it
be Goodyear or nissan!

Pros:
Looks great, Fast and powerful engine, loaded with features if you get the DPP.
|
Cons:
Suspension, brake, tranny and interior finish problems. Tire SHIMMY!!! Chrome pealing.
|
Review:
Nissan seriously needs to correct the problems with the 6th Gen.
Maximas'. They seen numb to the problems and complaints of PAYING customers.
I have to wonder if they read the news about Ford and GM having to lay off
thousands of employees. This is because customers got tired of the problems
with GM and Ford vehicles and looked to the imports.

Pros:
Nice car - sporty - reliable - Nissan has good service.
|
Cons:
Goodyear Eagle RS-A P245/45 R18 tires are a deathtrap. Keep close eye
sidewalls, and insist on replacement as soon as you see anything.
|
Review:
Goodyear Eagle RS-A P245/45 R18 sidewalls are cracked all the way around
the inside of the tire. Cracks on the outside as well. It's a wonder
nobody's been killed. Goodyear probably smoke screening behind their
under-inflation propaganda campaign.

Purchased vehicle in September, 2004. Exceedingly pleased will ALL
aspects of this vehicle, and am STUNNED to see the number of poor reviews.
It is my wife's car, and she LOVES the 6-speed, as do I. We also love the
room. I am 6'4", and she is 5'11". If there was anything that I could find
to complain about, I would... but there just isn't. If things change, I'll
write another review.

poor front-end, should have made car a rear wheel drive. Bad tires-Goodyear
|
Review:
I bought an extended warranty from Discount tire co on the tires, thank
god. All 4 of the tires have developed these cracks on the sidewall, but
luckily with the road hazard warranty they are covered for manufacturer
defects. At $235 a tire that adds up quickly. Sounds like Nissan knows there
is a problem with the tires but is doing nothing about it. I guess a bunch
of people will have to die and Nissan get sued before they do anything about
it, sad but true!!!!! I am hoping the shimmy is coming from the poor quality
tires from Goodyear. What is funny is that all these cracks originate on the
inside of the tire, like the car exerts to much force on the tires

Pros:
Appearance, handling, power, and sound system excellent
|
Cons:
Tires and rear view visibility is difficult. Also front grill is cheaply
made and the clips that hold it on were easily damaged during a Nissan
service repair. They disagree they did it.
|
Review:
4 of my 5 tires have now developed cracks on the inside and have had to
be replaced. 2 of them had lost air pressure suddenly causing an unsafe
driving condition. Goodyear agrees it is a manufactuirng defect but only
replaces prorated which has still cost me nearly $400 to replace the 4
tires, with no comfort that it won't happen again on the new ones.
