2005 Nissan Titan King Cab Advances Reputation for Power and Innovation
The 2005 Nissan Titan King Cab full-size pickup continues as a 'big ideas' design, with features like Wide-Open rear doors that open 168 degrees
for nearly unlimited interior access and a high-utility bed that includes an industry-first factory-applied spray-in bed liner, a Utili-track tie-down
system that provides ultimate cargo hauling flexibility and an integrated, lockable bedside storage compartment.
After a banner first year, with a host of automotive awards, the Titan King Cab enters 2005 with minor enhancements. For 2005, the Titan King Cab
adds standard front seat active head restraints, dampened tailgate assist, which helps aid in the opening and closing of the tailgate, and a new exterior and interior color.
Unchanged is Titan's powerful 305-horsepower 5.6-liter DOHC V8 with a torque rating of 379 lb-ft. The Titan also offers a standard 5-speed
automatic transmission and a towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds (when properly equipped). Titan King Cab is available with a choice of 2WD and 4WD.
'Titan had a tremendously successful rookie year in a very tough segment,' said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Nissan
Division. 'Titan meets the full-size truck prerequisites of size and power and exceeds standards with features like the high-utility bed, Wide-Open
doors and lockable bedside storage.'
A Platform of its Own
'Serious full-size truck owners require their pickups to have full-size power ' horsepower, torque and towing capacity,' said McNabb. 'With Titan,
an enormous priority was placed on these essentials in the development process.'
Powering the Titan is a 5.6-liter V8 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 379 lb-ft of torque and features a maximum towing capacity of 9,500
pounds (when properly equipped) ' as much as some 3/4-ton pickups. Titan utilizes a rugged, fully boxed high-strength all-steel F-Alpha platform for
enhanced crash performance and long-term durability.
The standard 5-speed automatic transmission was designed especially for heavy-duty truck use, with emphasis on serious towing. Each component was
created for full-size truck application, along with a wide gear ratio to create a high performance control system producing top-class acceleration,
power and shift quality.
The use of advanced engine technology such as aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, forged steel crankshaft, microfinished crankshaft and
camshaft, graphite-coated pistons, 6-bolt main bearing caps, and Super Silent single-stage timing chain result in good fuel economy with no
sacrifice of performance.
For 4WD models, Titan adapts an advanced shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel drive system with 2WD/4H/4LO modes with electronic control part-time transfer case.
An off-road package is available with unique lower ratio gearing, Dana axles, class-exclusive switch-on-demand electronically activated locking
rear differential, off-road-style Rancho performance gas shock absorbers, large all-terrain tires, fog lights and lower radiator, oil pan and transfer
case skid plates.
Titan's responsive handling is a product of its all-steel double wishbone front suspension design and rigid leaf (dual rate) rear suspension with
shackles mounted along the frame sides to increase departure angle. The Titan is available with 17-inch painted steel wheels and 245/75R17 tires or
18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 265/70R18 tires. Also available are 17-inch brushed aluminum-alloy wheels and 285/70R17 tires as part of the off-road package.
Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard, along with 4-wheel disc brakes with Bosch Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
Wide-Open Vehicle Entry
Among the Titan King Cab's many standard and available features are power-adjustable front seats with available driver's seat memory system,
heated front seats and flip-up 60/40 rear seat cushions for added cargo space and flexibility, with grocery hooks on the bottom of the seat
cushions. The rear floor was designed to fold nearly flat for maximum cargo utility.
The King Cab's rear compartment offers ample rear storage, including door storage bins and rear door bottle holders in the armrests and power front
windows with one-touch up and down function.
Along with the 'everyday innovations' found in Titan's storage and comfort details, the King Cab features a true breakthrough design innovation
- a first-in-class Wide-Open rear door that swings open 168 degrees, providing unprecedented access to the rear seats. Key to the door's design
is a hefty, two-stage hinge with four axis of rotation. The door opens first to a conventional 85 degrees, then can be swung the rest of the way up to 168 degrees.
Along with providing a new level of ease for entering and exiting the rear seat, the Wide-Open door allows owners to load packages or cargo in
crowded parking lots without having to maneuver between the traditional 'trap' of partially opened front and rear doors.
The Wide-Open door is standard on all 2005 Nissan Titan King Cab models.
A High-Function Utility Bed
The Titan King Cab's other really big idea is actually a series of innovations, all addressing truck owners desire for more utility and
flexibility in how they use their trucks beds.
Nissan research showed that a vast majority of full-size pickup owners perform some sort of modifications, usually bed liners or tie-down systems,
to their trucks after purchase. After studying available aftermarket bed utility systems and bed liners, the Titan team created a unique, two-part solution.
First, to overcome the tendency of aftermarket drop-in bedliners to warp or trap rust-inducing moisture underneath, or the relatively high cost and
thickness of typical aftermarket spray-in bedliners, a special factory-applied spray-in bedliner was developed. Using a special high
durability hard surface resin application, which can be sprayed on complex surfaces, the bedliner helps prevent scratch damage and corrosion to the bed
and inner tailgate surface. Thinner than drop-in bedliners or typical aftermarket spray-in applications, the Titan bedliner also maximizes bed
volume. It is the first offered by any original equipment manufacturer and is covered by the Nissan warranty.
The second part of the bed utility solution was the development of the Utili-track System tie-down channel system. With this system, five special
"C" cross-section rails are mounted in the bed (two channels in the bed floor, and one each on the bed side rails and the bed header panel).
Removable utility cleats slide into the channels, providing a wide range of attaching points for cargo tie-down. The channels are open at the rear of
the bed, allowing the cleats to be completely removed when not in use for easy cleaning of the channels with a spray washer or garden hose.
The cleats are rated at 200 pounds and the Utili-track System also includes 22 additional structural reinforcements to strengthen the bed,
helping to accommodate the loads associated with the channel system. In addition, slide-in channel caps help prevent debris from collecting in the
floor channels when not in use.
Nissan offers an extensive line of bed dividers, sliding cargo trays and modular storage units, along with bike and kayak racks and other accessories.
The Titan King Cab bed also includes four standard stake pockets and, as required, Titan carries 4x8-foot plywood sheets easily between the wheel housings.
The Titan also features an innovative bedside storage compartment located behind the rear driver's side wheel. The bedside storage bin is designed to
hold common truck items such as work gloves, chains, rope, road flares, first aid kit or a hitch ball. The compartment is double-sealed to help
prevent the intrusion of water and dust (though the compartment is not designed to be waterproof in case of submersion) and uses the Titan ignition
key for unlocking.
Also available for 2005 is dampened tailgate assist that aids in the effort to open and close the tailgate.
Safety and Security
The 2005 Titan includes a long list of safety equipment, including available front seat side-impact and curtain supplemental air bags that help
provide side-impact and rollover protection for outboard passengers (the first available among full-size pickups).
Standard safety features on the 2005 Titan include Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt
sensors and a front passenger occupant classification sensor, front seat belts with adjustable upper anchors, front seat active head restraints,
pretensioners and load limiters, three-point rear outboard passenger seat belts and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchor system.
Driver and passenger confidence is accentuated with an extensive list of vehicle-incorporated safety features including a Zone Body construction with
front and rear structure crumple zones, an energy absorbing steering column, hood buckling creases with safety stops, knee bolsters and special body side
reinforcements and a shift interlock system.

2005 Nissan Titan Crew Cab Adds Power Back Glass to Long List of Innovative Features
Entering its sophomore year, the Nissan Titan Crew Cab continues to be a dominant force in the full-size truck segment for 2005. Titan Crew Cab
features a spacious cabin with class-leading* interior space, powerful V8 engine, a high-utility cargo bed with an industry-first factory-applied
spray-in bedliner, a Utili-track bed channel tie-down system that provides ultimate cargo hauling flexibility, and an integrated, lockable bedside storage compartment.
For the 2005 model year, Titan Crew Cab adds a power up/down rear privacy back glass with defroster standard on all models, providing an open-air
feeling to the truck. Also new for 2005 is a dampened tailgate assist, which helps reduce effort in opening and closing the tailgate, front seat active
head restraints, new packaging and a new exterior and interior color.
'In its initial model year, the Nissan Titan significantly raised the standard for power, utility and style within the full-size truck segment,'
said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. 'For 2005, Titan will continue to be a major player in the segment, offering
full-size truck buyers innovation, performance and value.'
Ample Power for Work and Play
The heart and soul of the Titan is pure, unabashed power, with the Nissan Endurance 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 305 horsepower and 379 lb-ft of
torque. The Titan Crew Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 9,400 pounds (when properly equipped). Titan utilizes a rugged, fully boxed high-strength
steel F-Alpha platform for enhanced crash performance and long-term durability.
The V8, with aluminum cylinder heads and block with cast iron cylinder liners, microfinished forged steel crankshaft with microfinished
chain-driven dual overhead camshafts, graphite-coated pistons and single-stage timing chain.
The standard 5-speed automatic transmission is designed especially for heavy-duty truck use, with emphasis on serious towing. Each component was
created for full-size truck application, along with a low and wide gear ratio to create a high performance control system producing top-class
acceleration, power and shift quality.
At the center of this tough powertrain is a sturdy, fully boxed ladder frame built specifically for serious full-size vehicles. The frame has
closed-section side rails rather than the traditional C-channel open section rails that most full-size trucks employ.
Titan's responsive handling is a product of its all-steel double-wishbone front suspension design with coil-over shock absorbers and stabilizer bar
and rigid leaf (dual rate) rear suspension with shackles mounted along the frame sides to help maximize ground clearance and departure angle. Also
available are Rancho off-road performance shocks as part of the 4WD Off-Road Package.
The 2005 Titan is available with 17-inch painted steel wheels and P245/75R17 tires or 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and P265/70R18 tires. Also
available are 17-inch brushed aluminum-alloy wheels and largest-in-class* BF Goodrich P285/70R17 Rugged Trail tires as part of the Off-Road package.
The Titan also features a standard power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system, designed for greater steering and handling performance,
especially during heavy towing situations. Unique to the Titan, the power steering rack-and-pinion gear is isolated from the vehicle body by three
rubber-insulated mounts, which helps reduce steering vibration felt through the steering wheel.
For 4WD models, Titan uses an advanced shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel drive system with 2WD/4H/4LO modes with electronic control part-time transfer
case. Also contributing to Titan's off-road capability is an advanced torque split control strategy that works in cooperation with the 4-wheel limited
slip Traction Control System to transfer drive torque to wheels automatically according to road and driving conditions.
Spacious Interior Environment
Titan Crew Cab's interior is designed to transport a crew from the job site or a family. At 126 cubic feet, the Titan Crew Cab offers more interior
space than any competitive half-ton crew cab models. The Titan Crew Cab offers class-leading* front and rear seat leg room with 41.8 inches and 40.4
inches respectively.
The rear seat is large and relaxing, with a full 24 degrees of seat back angle and offers a 60/40 split fold-up feature that offers more usable space
than fold and tumble designs. The rear compartment offers ample storage, including door storage bins and rear door bottle holders in the armrests.
An available overhead console system gives passengers more storage options and also comes with an optional rear-seat DVD Mobile Theatre System
with fold-down 7-inch monitor. The console houses rear audio controls and also contains dampened storage bins for both front and rear passengers for
items like sunglasses, CDs, cell phone, PDA or a small tissue box.
Two interior configurations are available ' a standard bench seat with column shifter, which seats six passengers or an optional Captain's Chair
Package, which offers a large center console with two front captain's chairs with gated floor shifter.
The center console can hold a variety of beverage containers, including a 1-liter bottle. A 12-volt adapter is equipped in the storage area and can be
used as a power source for a phone or other electronic devices. The storage in the center console offers passengers a variety of storage choices, with
size adjusted by simply removing or adding dividers. The console's storage box can also accommodate hanging file folders and contains holders for maps,
paper, pens and business cards on the console lid.
The Titan Crew Cab features a front passenger seat that folds flat to allow extra storage and can also be used as a working area. Additionally,
power-adjustable front seats with available driver's seat memory system and heated seats provide added convenience, while the addition of front-seat
active head restraints add one more extra element of safety. Titan also offers power-adjustable foot pedals with memory and transmission interlock.
The First True Utility Bed
Perhaps Titan's biggest innovation and differentiation from the competition is in its cargo bed, addressing truck owners' desire for more
utility and flexibility in how they use their trucks' bed.
Using a special high
durability hard surface resin application, which can be sprayed on complex surfaces, the bedliner helps prevent scratch damage and corrosion to the bed
and inner tailgate surface, it is the first offered by any original equipment manufacturer and is covered by the Nissan Basic Limited Warranty
(see dealer for complete warranty details).
The second part of the bed utility solution was the development of the Utili-track tie-down channel system. With this system, five special "C"
channel rails are mounted in the bed (two channels in the bed floor, and one each on the bed side rails and the bed header panel).
Removable utility cleats slide into the channels, providing a wide range of attaching points for cargo tie-down. The channels are open at the rear of
the bed, allowing the cleats to be completely removed when not in use for easy cleaning of the channels with a spray washer or garden hose.
The cleats are rated at 250 pounds and the Utili-track system also includes 22 additional structural reinforcements to strengthen the bed,
helping to accommodate the loads associated with the channel system. In addition, slide-in channel caps help prevent debris from collecting in the
floor channels when not in use.
Nissan offers an extensive line of bed accessories including dividers, sliding cargo trays and modular storage units, a sliding tool box, plus bike
and kayak racks.
Also available for 2005 is Dampened Tailgate Assist that aids in the effort to open and close the tailgate.
The Titan bed also includes four standard stake pockets and, as required for a working pickup, Titan carries 4x8-foot plywood sheets easily between
the wheel housings.
Another innovative feature is the bedside storage compartment located behind the rear driver's side wheel.
Safety and Security
The 2005 Titan includes a long list of safety equipment, including available supplemental front seat side-impact air bags and roof-mounted
curtain air bags for side-impact and rollover protection for outboard passengers (the first available among full-size pickups).
Standard safety features on the 2005 Titan include Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt
sensors and a front passenger occupant classification sensor, front seat belts with adjustable upper anchors, pretensioners and load limiters, front
seat active head restraints, three-point rear outboard passenger seat belts and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchor system.
