Bad tansmission, I have put a new clutch and flywheel in the vehicle at 89,000 miles again at 91,000 miles and it is 93000 miles and about to put a new clutch and
flywheel in for the 3rd time. I had the ECU relay go out at around 80000 miles and it destroyed both cats. Vehicle now has a vacume leak, and malfunctioning throttle
control, The gearbox is going out, master and clutch cylender are going out. Heater is going out, Both new cats have gone out again. Tire pressure gauges only work
for a short while after being replaced. The fuel gauge sticks at 1/4th tank of fuel. Bearings in the wheels are going out. Towing harness went out, due to faulty
factory wiring. 02 sensors both have been replaced and need replacing again. exhaust system now rattles because of the multiple times the trans has been dropped.
Drivers side interior is cloth and has seperated at the seems despite always having a seat cover. So at this moment my xterra is worth 6,000 dollars acording to
KBB a nd the delearship said they would take it off my hands if i gave them $2000. So according to Nissan my car is worth -2000. I have never missed a oil change
and i have never missed a tune up. I do not reccomend this vehicle to anyone.

Pros:
Strong performance, dependable vehicle, looks good and has plenty of interior space. Cargo racks very functional especially with Thule
racks added. Exterior maintains good looks even after dusty and muddy field trips.
|
Cons:
Driver seat fabric was replaced during warranty due to wear. A/C idler pulley has worn out twice-resulting in loud squealing noise,
not covered by warranty.

Review:
Bought my Xterra new in 2006, because of the looks and Nissan reputation. Truck has been very dependable and has never failed to be
ready whenever I am even after 91,000 miles. Replaced the tires at about 45,000. Still is a great vehicle. My wife complains about the
rough ride, but she is used to her Nissan Maxima! Fuel mileage is disappointing at about 17MPG locally in rural area, have gotten
highest 21mpg on long trips.

Pros:
VQ40 Engine and 5-Speed Auto; Precise steering; Off Road edition goodies (VDC, HDC, Diff Lock); Good looks; RF Stereo
|
Cons:
Off Road edition has rough ride over broken pavement (duh); brakes seem adequate but pedal feel is mushy; size constraints become
obvious when loading up with the wife, 2 dogs and gear for 5 days.

Review:
I love my 2006 Xterra; it looks great, has gobs of power for it's size and can handle just about anything off-road with minor
modifications.

Review:
Was looking for a SUV with a manual transmission (6 spd, even better!!) and a solid rear axle that was offroad capable and had some
reasonable pulling capacity. Oh ya, and built on a frame; Well, XTerra was the answer! Being a satisfied pathfinder 1995 owner for
several years, I already had some trust in Nissan. The 4.0 liter engine is impressive. I looked at the FJ Cruiser and H3 and still
have no regrets after almost 3 years
|
Pros:
Powerful, yet reliable, good ground clearance, great offroad capabilities, great handling, quiet, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) surprisingly
efficient (but noisy), love the sixth speed, comfortable, rear diff. lock (offroad model), excellent audio system, heated mirrors, and lot
more... Raise the bar for competitor
|
Cons:
Rear suspension bottoms out easily, no gas tank lock, trailer hitch should be standard, rear seats are hard to get to but comfortable
once you get there, tire pressure monitor warning light is on almost all winter (get used to it!), rigid plastic mud guards are
questionable offroad, lots of paint chips from rear wheel flying rocks after only three weeks, no aux. input in 2006, often
underestimated and frequently compared to wannabe SUVs.

Review:
We purchased used a 2006 Xterra after my Pick up was involved in an accident and I needed something that would tow my bass boat and haul
people. We traded my 2006 Altima and could not be happier. The 4.0L is a BEAST and screams with torque, fuel economy is around 21-23
mpg at 70 MPH or less. Side steps in rear make it easy to reach roof rack now and lockable basket is better than our 2 previous models.
